Getting Started.

  • When you set up your student account, we ask you to enter your hobbies and interests. This will help GOJI suggest tutors who have something in common with you. For example, if you share the same major at school like biology, or if you both like playing basketball. Make sure you complete your profile as it will help ensure that you and your tutor have something to talk about right away.

  • After you have set up your free student account, start by scrolling through your list of available tutors. Be sure to read their bios (hint: If you tap on the tutors profile picture, their bio card will flip over). Here you can see the tutor's experience, credentials, and ratings from other students.

  • At the bottom of the tutor's info card, there are two options: call or message. Try sending the tutor a message to get the conversation started - messaging is always free :) GOJI Messaging is a great way to get a feel for the tutor before you decide to schedule a live video lesson with them.

  • Chat with them about what you want to learn and what your goals are. If you are studying English for an exam such as IELTS, TOEFL, or the SAT for example, ask them if they have experience with preparing students for these exams. Conversely, if you are looking to simply practice your oral English before a trip abroad or just for fun, let them know! This way the tutor can be fully prepared to tailor the session to you.

  • After the session, you will be able to rate the tutor. This helps GOJI learn what to recommend to you in the future and will affect which tutors get displayed in your personalized menu of native English-speakers.

  • From the tutor's profile you will also be able to save them to your 'favourites,' so that you can find them easily in the future (this is done by tapping the white star at the top right corner). You can access your favourites anytime from your menu. Many students like having a different tutor saved for different topics, such as a great speaking partner, a writing coach, and an SAT specialist for example.
